Dr. Sam Baltzer received degrees in music education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, North Texas State University and Indiana University. For four years, Dr. Baltzer worked as the band director for the Summersville (Mo.) school district. He founded and directs several college and community music ensembles, including the Northwest Georgia Winds, the Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble and the Chamber Players of the South. He has written articles published in several music journals and has led workshops at the Georgia Music Educators Association Convention. Baltzer has composed or arranged over 200 pieces.  He continues to perform both classical music and jazz on trombone and electric bass.

Dr. Baltzer worked from 1987 to 2012 at Shorter College/University, serving as Director of Music Education, Director of Instrumental Activities, and Professor of Music.  In August, 2012, he moved to Georgia Highlands College, where he currently serves as Professor of Music and Community Arts Liaison.

Dr. Baltzer resides in Rome with his wife, Janet, who is the founder and director of Angel Express, Inc., a local children’s charity.
